Before & After Care

Permanent Make-Up

Pre-Care Instructions

Please bring eyeglasses if you wear contact lenses, to all appointments! You must wear eyeglasses for 3 days post procedure for all eyeliner procedures. Then you can wear your contact lenses. Must be clean or new!

If a client has ever had (even if years ago) a fever blister, cold sore, shingles or chicken pox, it is recommended you obtain a prescribed anti viral medication from your doctor or dentist. Fever blisters are very common as a side effect of lip tattooing. For healthy lip tissue it is not a bad idea to pre-moisten lips by first exfoliating lightly with a new soft toothbrush and applying a healing ointment like Aquaphor.

Please do not wear any perfume or makeup to your appointment. If you have extra dry skin consider getting a basic facial a week prior to exfoliate dead skin cells.

All professional tweezing, waxing or tinting of eyebrow hairs should be done know more than 72 hours prior to a procedure. Please avoid any depilatory or bleaching agents on your lips pre and post lip tattooing. All lash perms and lashing tinting can be done up to 72 hours pre procedure and 30 days post procedure. If you wear fake eye lashes you cannot wear them pre, during or post procedure.

Please do not book an appointment before any major events, like a vacation, social event, or wedding. Clients may be more sensitive if on their period during and procedure.

Please only use new mascara, makeup or lipstick after all procedures. It is important to not be exposed to bacteria. This can cause a secondary infection.

It is important to not have sunburn prior to and after any procedures. This includes tanning beds.

All clients must be off Retin A or Renova 30 days prior to all procedures. Clients must be off Accutane for one year, prior to all procedures.

Please avoid any alcohol 48 hours prior to all procedures. Bella Dimemmo will not recommend any medications for a client to take to control discomfort. If you feel the need to self medicate, you must have proof of a ride home. Bella Dimemmo does not recommend dental blocks prior to lip tattooing.

Try to avoid the following things unless medically needed prior to all procedures:

  • Aspirin or similar products
  • Alcohol
  • Niacin and Vitamin E
  • Gingko Biloba, Saint Johns Wart or Evening Primrose oil
  • If you have any condition that requires you to take antibiotics prior to going to the dentist, it is a good idea to do the same prior to all tattoo work.

Post-Care Instructions

Proper care following your procedure is necessary to achieve the best results. Keep in mind that in many cases, some unevenness of color is to be expected. This is the purpose of the touch-up visit. Please review the following directions and refer to them as necessary. If during your healing process you have any questions or concerns please contact Bella at 1-410-878-7999.

  • Expect treated areas to be tender for the next few days.
  • Eyeliner may or may not be puffy for a day or two.
  • Cold, wet cotton pads, soaked in distilled water and baby oil (so the cotton doesn’t stick to tattoo) may be applied to reduce swelling.
  • Chill pads in freezer for 4 to 5 min. and lay them over your eyes. Advil or Benadryl may also be taken if needed.

Keep the area of pigmentation lightly moist with a product such as A & D ointment. When using one of these sealants don’t apply overly greasy or obvious. To apply you can use your clean finger tip for brows and lips. For eyeliner you can use a Q-Tip or micro Q-Tip. Please do not scrape the Q-Tip with sealant directly across your tattooed color, place it just above on your upper eyeliner and just below on your lower eyeliner , the heat of your own body will melt and move the sealant over your new tattoo to protect it and keep it moist until it is healed. Try not to cover your tear duct with sealant, and less is best with the eyes since the eyes can get irritated from trying to clear itself of too much goo. Apply sealant 2-3 times a day (morning, night, and once in between) for a minimum of 7 days. If a crust forms on the pigmented surface, do not force removal by scratching or abrasive washing.

The pigment could be removed along with the crust. Be gentle with your tattoo and let it exfoliate its upper layer without your help. Some itching is normal. AGAIN DO NOT PICK, PEEL, OR SCRATCH the treated area or your color may heal unevenly. Lips should remain sealed for 4 weeks, but they go through the exfoliating process the fastest. They will exfoliate there dark color in 3-5 days as the eyeliner and brows can take up to about 7 days. Do not expose the area that’s healing, to dirty or unsanitary conditions. Wearing glasses outdoors is a good way to protect new eyeliner from dust, etc.

It is normal for your tattooed color to heal 30-40% lighter than how it looks when you leave my office, be patient, the end results are very natural and worth waiting for.

After your eyeliner is tattooed , you may resume wearing your contact lenses as soon as your eyes return to their pre-tattooed condition, approximately 24 hrs.

No make-up is to be applied on or to close to new tattoo until it is healed. Old or used make-up can be loaded with bacteria which could cause infection. After eyeliner is healed it is advised to start with brand new mascara. Because you are advised not to use mascara until your new eyeliner is healed you may want to tint your eyelashes black before you have the procedure done. This will not make them longer or thicker like mascara does, but they will be nice and dark for about 4 weeks.

Do not use an eyelash curler for 2 weeks, and if you are using an eyelash extender product such as LiLash/brow or Latisse please discontinue until 4 weeks after your touchup session and your eyeliner or brows are complete. These products are incredible and really do work, but are so new that we don’t know how they will affect your tattooed color, so don’t take any chances! Emu oil is a wonderful skin conditioner, but do not use Emu oil as your sealant. Because it may cause your pigment color to bleed or migrate.

Do not expose your healing skin to direct sun, tanning beds, hot tubs, saunas, steam, salt water, chlorinated pools, direct shower spray, skin creams, ointments or lotions other than your sealant for 1 week following your procedure.

If you are having your lips tattooed and you are prone to cold sores, you must be on an antiviral medication 5 days before your procedure and 5 days after your procedure. Keep your lips moist for 4 weeks with your sealant, they will feel dry at first but, this will pass. The color will come and go as the collagen fibers come to heal the lips and the natural exfoliating process has occurred. It is normal not to see how much color was achieved until 4 weeks have passed. Avoid spicy and salty foods. Be careful to keep lips sealed when washing your face or brushing your teeth.

You may wax or tweeze brow area before a brow tattoo to help clean up and design your brow placement, but do not resume any method of hair removal for at least 2 weeks after your new brows have been tattooed.

Long-Term Care

Use a good sunscreen if out in direct sun-even the lips require protection. Sun exposure will fade your permanent cosmetics just like a body tattoo.

If you are planning a chemical peel, lazer peel, MRI, or other medical procedure, please inform your physician of your cosmetic tattoo. Retin –A and Glycolic Acids can thin the epidermis and thus make it easier for the sun to fade your tattoo. Certain lazers have reported to turn your pigment black, so make sure your physician is aware of your natural looking tattoo so there are no unwanted surprises.

If you donate blood, it is a Red Cross policy that you must wait one year after any tattooing procedure.

In the unlikely event that you get an infection ,contact your health care provider.

Microblading - Eyebrow Emroidery

Pre-Care Instructions

Prior to your permanent cosmetic enhancement think about the look that you wish to achieve. As experts in the field of colour analysis and makeovers, we ensure that the correct colours and styles are chosen for you, however you are part of the decision-making process.

Permanent cosmetic enhancements normally require multiple application sessions. To achieve the best results you will be required to return for at least one control procedure four to six weeks after the initial application.

Be prepared for the colour intensity to be significantly sharper and darker immediately after the procedure. This will subside and become softer as the skin heals. This process can take up to fourteen days.

  • Since delicate skin or sensitive areas may be swollen or red, you are advised not to make social plans on the day of your enhancement.
  • Please wear your normal make-up to your enhancement appointment.
  • Do not take aspirin or Ibuprofen 2 days prior to and after your enhancement.
  • Do not discontinue any medication before consulting your doctor.
  • Do not drink alcohol no less than 2 days prior to and after your enhancement.
  • A sensitivity test will be performed unless waived upon request.
  • Do not use Retin A skincare products close to the enhancement area 1 month prior to and after your procedure.
  • Do not use AHA skincare products close to the enhancement area 2 weeks prior to and after your procedure.
  • As with electrolysis the National Blood Service does not accept donations of blood for 1 year after a permanent cosmetic enhancement.
Post-Care Instructions
  • The area treated may show redness and swelling and that the colour looks dark and intense – this is quite normal.
  • Additional treatments cannot be undertaken until the area has completely healed. A 4/6 week healing time is required before any more work can be undertaken.
  • In order to let your brows heal well, avoid water on the brow area, make up to the brow area, the gym, sauna or pool for 7 days.
  • Once the area has healed completely, approximately one week, consider using a waterproof total sunblock when going out in the sun to stop the color fading.
  • Strong chemicals or glycolic acid/peels of any kind may cause the pigment to lighten. Always telephone and check with your consultant if in any doubt.
  • Do not pick or pull at the treated area as it will result in pigment loss. You will go through three healing phases: 1-heal, 2-peel and 3-fade
  • You may notice whiteness or blanching around the area, this is quite normal and will subside within 12 hours. If you find any lymphatic fluid or blood weeping you can gently clean the area with saline, cool boiled water and gauze, blotting gently dry to remove any moisture.
  • With clean hands and a cotton bud apply a fine layer of after care balm to the treated area.
  • After the fine scabbing has sloughed away you will see a different hue to the colour implanted.
  • Giving Blood – The Red Cross have suggested that you do not give blood for 6 months following treatment.
  • MRI Scans – This procedure shows up as an artifact on the scan. Some clients may experience a tingling sensation. Please notify your radiologist.
  • Injectables – Dermal fillers and Botox can alter the shape of the eyebrows. The client should be advised that injectables should be carried out after a microblading procedure and not prior.
  • Laser /Pulsed Light – Laser or pulsed light hair removal or skin rejuvenation treatments can cause colour change – it is important to advise the therapist that you have had Microblading procedure as this cannot be rectified with another Microblading procedure.
  • Color Refreshing – To keep your new brows looking at their best it is recommended that you have a colour refresh procedure every 12-18 months.
Eyebrow Enhancement
  • Waxing treatments should be performed no less than 3 days prior to your enhancement.
  • IPL laser hair removal should be performed no less than 2 weeks prior to your enhancement.
  • Electrolysis treatments should be performed no less than 5 days prior to your enhancement.
  • Eyebrow tinting should not be undertaken for 2 weeks after your enhancement.

Tattoo Removal

Post-Care Instructions
A bandage is applied over the treated area and should be left in place and kept dry for the first 48 hours following the treatment. The bandage should NOT be airtight. The bandage should allow for air to get to the treated area allowing a scab to form and harden. The scab must be kept dry until it naturally falls offflakes away, which will take between one or two weeks. The scab should not be picked off or scratched during the healing process as this could lead to some permanent scarring. As with any treatment that punctures the skin there is a risk of infection. The area should therefore be kept clean and dry until the skin has properly healed. If there are any signs of infection you should consult your primary care physician. After the scab has fallen off, DermRenu tissue repair solution (which works as a scar inhibitor) should be applied two (2X) times daily to the treatment area. Detailed instructions regarding “After Treatment Care” will be fully discussed at time of treatment and instructions will be provided for reference at home. EliminInk tattoo removal treatments can only be administered by an EliminInk Certified Tattoo Artist, Permanent Make-up Artist, Physician or Certified personnel

Airbrush Tanning

Pre-Care Instructions
Shower and thoroughly exfoliate your skin, with either a loofah, wash cloth or exfoliating prep product. Nothing with an oil base, this will affect how long the tan lasts. Concentrate exfoliating on dry skin areas like elbows, knees, ankles and tops of feet. Waxing and shaving should be done at least 24 hours before.
During Your Session
Your skin must be completely dry and free of any moisturizer, deodorant, make-up or perfumes. Wear dark, loosely fitted clothing for after your tan. Preferably wear something that you don’t have to wear a bra with afterwards. Tanning bronzer may have minor rub off on your clothes or sheets before your first shower, this will wash out of most fabrics. If you are bringing a sundress or shorts for wearing after the tan, and you have cloth seats, please bring a dark towel to place on your seat… if any tanning product does wear off, it is easier to just wash a towel than wash your car seats.
After Tan Instructions
Avoid getting your skin wet or any activities that will cause perspiration between the spray tanning and showering phase. You may shower after 6-8 hours. After each shower, always pat dry with your towel. Moisturize daily using lotion, extending tan lotion, or whatever you would normally use. Moisturizing will reduce the rate at which your skin sheds and will help keep your tan looking better for longer. The use of very hot baths, chlorinated pools and spas will reduce the life of your tan.
